On
the night of the re-union gig, it was my birthday, I turned 35...
Being there on the night reminded me of the first time I heard
Strange Tenants when I was just 17.
They weren't the first ska band I had heard, but they were the
first one I could relate to. They sang about stuff we all knew
about, felt what they felt, saw what they saw. Coming from Brisbane,
we never got to see them as often as others.
That night, I remembered the first time I saw them, under age
at East's Leagues Club, Pokies now stand where the punters once
did. Times change, but the feelings inside for bands like Strange
Tenants never do.
On that night, my 35th, I could not have asked for a greater night,
all the bands were brilliant, the punters were friendly, the beer
was cold......
I sang along, to all the songs, that I had hear all those years
ago, I danced to all those bedroom tunes, that had scratched my
records.
I nearly cried, when the band played "Grey Skies", because
I think I finally understood what they were singing about.
But best of all, I was there, I was there when Strange Tenants
played again.....
And when I get old, I will be able to look back and smile.
Thanks Guys

When I saw the Strange Tenants flier
anouncing a gig at the Corner Hotel I couldn't believe my eyes.
What an opertunity to relive my youth. To be able to go back 18
odd years to relive the great pub band live scene again! (before
fax machines, before mobile phones, before computers ruled my
work place)
I remembered the tenants fans I met at regular gigs, people I'd
long lost contact with!
I rememberd the great gigs and girls I met, and the girls I would
have liked to have met.
I remembered how the crowd skanked (picking up fellow skankers
if they fell) and how well the tenants played.
I rememberd how humble and appreciative the tenants were of their
following.
Why had I spent so much time following this band and not others?
Last saturday memories became reality.
On saturday I skanked again.
On saturday I looked into the crowd, some familiar, some not.
On saturaday I smiled at the crowd and they smiled back.
On saturday I skanked even though I knew my legs would ache!
On saturday the crowd skanked and the tenants played better than
I remembered
On saturday I remembered exactley why I spent so much time following
the Stange Tenants..................because it was great fun!
Thanks, Martin Schacher.
Have
your say...
If you were there on the night and would like to contribute
a review from your perspective, we'd be keen to add it to
this page.
